Janek Sprachta’s EP “Nachts” merged spontaneous ideas, tip-toeing melodies and a general openess to sound and perspectives. The four pieces found themselves glued together by the short time frame in which they were realized and the blend of themes and instrumentation. So why not take this concept of impuls, action and reaction to the next plain and see what others will make of these miniatures? The outcome of this quest is “Nachts Rmxs”, a follow-up, expansion and companion to Janek Sprachta’s aforementioned debut release. A little circle of friends and collective family gathered around and took various elements to form something new. This resulted in a very eclectic collection of reinterpretations. Janek himself remixed the title track into a slow minimal mantra. Corwood Manual cut-up and glued the spacey “Traum” back together the wrong way, layering sliced beats, floating guitars and unidentifiable voices on top. Kirrin Island drones his way through “Schlafzug” in slow-house fashion, knitting pop references and sample-tricks into one of his darkest outings to date. Window Magic reimagined the floating “Friedlich” as a drony ambient tape piece, leaving the listener puzzled as to whether people accidentally found this version on an ocean floor trapped under ice or on a mountain top during an arctic expedition.
Original versions written and recorded by Janek Sprachta at Einraum Studio, Berlin. Mastered by Andreas Bonkowski. Photography by Philipp Granzin.
